Monday night July 31, Eastern Berks Fire visited Spring Valley Village off Stauffer Road in Washington Township at the request of the residents association to demonstrate and allow hands on experience with fire extinguishers.
We began with a power point presentation by Gilbertsville Fire Company on the types and uses of fire extinguishers. It explained how the use of a simple home fire extinguisher can put out or dampen a fire before it grows in size. Chief Mike Mutter told the residences that even with as good as the department is and how quickly we can respond, fire will grow in size exponentially with every passing minute.
Gilbertsville Fire Company brought their BullsEye™ Laser-Driven Fire Extinguisher Training System and give resident practice discharging a simulated fire extinguisher at the base of a fire. Then we moved outside for the “real thing.” Eastern Berks, under the direction of Jack Julian, showed residents how to discharge a live extinguisher.
It was a great evening. Thanks for the invitation and thank you to Gilbertsville Fire for the presentation and the use of their training system.
