NASCAR – Fire Protection for Race Car Drivers was the practice at Eastern Berks Fire Department’s Station One on Monday night November 25th. NASCAR asked ECI (distributors of fire fighting foam “FireAde”) to build a simulator for race car fires to take to Indianapolis, Indiana for the ICMS Annual Race Track Safety Program in December.
ECI turned to Eastern Berks Fire Chief Mike Mutter, manager of Eddinger Propane in Bally, along with other EBFD firefighters who are also propane technicians at Eddinger’s, to build the simulator in a stripped down racing car body.
Eastern Berks Fire covers the racetrack at Grandview Speedway in Washington Township for all of their races each Spring, Summer and Fall. Constantly confronted with crashes, many involving fire, EBFD firefighters took the opportunity to practice on the simulator before it was shipped out to Indiana. Great night.
