Rescue/Engine 97 arrived and went in service with E-TOOLS to remove the drivers door. 97 personnel assisted 505 with patient care and debris cleanup. Hoffmansville Rd was shut down by fire police for 90 minutes while crews worked the scene. EBFD apparatus on scene include: Rescue Engine 97,  Engine 97, and Brush 97-1.

Chief 97 reported smoke showing from Bechtelsville and arrived to a fully involved camper fire, with a small brush fire as well. Crews quickly extinguished the flames before they reach any nearby structures, but the camper was a total loss. The camper fire started from a earlier camp fire that rekindled and spread through the dry grass from a easterly wind to the nearby camper on the site of a new home being built on the property.

59) Feb 13 – 97 and multiple other department assisted 95 on a working fire on Sunset Dr in Douglass Berks. From the Boyertown website— “Engine 95-1 arrived first and encountered a very long and steep driveway to access. Upon arrival on scene, Assistant 95-2 reported an approximately 40’ x 40 out-building well involved and already collapsing. Personnel attacked the bulk of the fire to prevent spread to adjacent structures.
Eastern Berks Engine 97 arrived and backed in the long driveway and reverse laid a 5” supply line to the main roadway and fed Engine 95-1 using a tanker shuttle. As more personnel arrived additional lines were deployed to attack the fire and also pull apart the metal shell to expose a large fire load of wood.” Crews were on the scene for hours as the scene was overhauled.

414) Nov 3 – Eastern Berks Fire, Bally Medics, and Fire Police from Eastern Berks and Boyertown were sent at 1758 hours for a Vehicle Fire at Rt 100 and Dairy Lane. Within a minute, it was re-dispatched as an MVA with Fire, and then upgraded to possible entrapment. EBFD Officers quickly arrived on scene and reported that it was a three vehicle accident and all three were fully involved in flames. An additional Medic unit from Boyertown was requested, a medic unit from Cetronia was driving past and stopped to assist, and Fire  Police from Gilbertsville, Earl, Hereford and Pennsburg were requested to assist EBFD and Boyertown units. EBFD apparatus responding include Engine 97, Rescue-Engine 97, Tankers 97 and 97-1 Brush 97-1, and Utility 97.  Rt 100 was closed for two hours while the fires were extinguished and the debris cleared. 408) Oct 29 – Eastern Berks and Boyertown Fire Departments, along with medics were sent at 1448 hours for a Confined Space Rescue on Crow Hill Rd in Washington. Initial reports indicated a male in a collapsed concrete structure.

Chief 97 quickly arrived on the scene at the Bally Water Storage Facility, and reported a male demolition worker on top of a collapsed concrete structure approx 20 feet deep. Workers were demolishing the old underground concrete water storage tank, which had been replaced by a new above ground tank  few years ago. The concrete lid caved in prematurely and one worker was trapped on top of the debris.

Fire and EMS crews worked to access the patient who was conscious and communicating, prepare him to be placed in a rescue basket, and raise him to the surface where he was turned over to medics. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Fire police closed Crow Hill Rd for the duration of the incident.

Report of vehicle into house, smoking, with driver still inside. 95 officers arrived and confirmed entrapment, but no fire. Fire assignment held to 95, 19, and 97. Rt 562 was closed by fire police for an extended time.

368) Sep 23 –  Eastern Berks Fire and along with Medics from Bally, Boyertown, and Gilbertsville responded at 8:01pm on Tuesday September 23rd to an Accident with Injuries and Entrapment on Rt 100 south of Niantic Rd in Washington Twp, Berks County. Personnel quickly arrived on the scene and reported a two vehicle crash, with one driver trapped in a car up on the southbound guard rail. Rescue crew popped the door to gain access to that patient. Fire Police from Eastern Berks, Boyertown, Gilbertsville, and Earl fire departments closed Rt 100 between Niantic and Barto Roads for almost five hours while patients were treated, PSP accident investigators reconstructed the scene, and the cars removed and the debris cleared. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was reopened shortly before 1:00am.

Engine 97 crews assisted 95 and others with initial fire attack through the front door. Crews found fire on all 3 floors and operated multiple hand lines to extinguish the fire. Crews battled multiple explosions and ammunition going off before bringing the fire under control. All companies were released approximately 3 hours later.
