October Fire Prevention in schools took on a different look in 2020, because of COVID 19.
Assistant Chief Scott Reitnauer was able to coordinate with three local school to have outdoor demonstrations of fire equipment, but unfortunately no indoor presentations.
Students at St Francis Preschool, Brookside Montessori, and Bally Preschool all got to look at trucks in person.
Washington Elementary was not able to host our normal assemblies and apparatus demos this year.
Firefighters also assist in other schools around the region, taking their personal time to explain about fire prevention and fire apparatus. One of those events occurred when Assistant Chief Matt Bakes gave a virtual tour of the department’s Bally Station for the Pre-K students of E. M. Stanton School in Philadelphia. The students’ teacher, Dayana Bakes is Matt’s niece.
The Department was also able to participate in the community event at the Weis on Rt 73 sponsored by Gilbertsville Fire and Rescue.
Thank you the Marta Gehringer for the virtual tour photos!
