Thursday August 4th at 1218 hours, Eastern Berks Fire, along with Boyertown, Hereford, Pennsburg, and Bally Medics were dispatched for a structure fire, reported to be the basement, on Lindy Dr in Washington Township.
EBFD Fire Chief Mike Mutter quickly arrived on location, and confirmed a working basement fire and requested Engine 97-1 to stretch a line to the rear of the dwelling where there was a walk-in basement entrance.
Fire was located in a basement bedroom and quick work by the crews from Engine 97-1, Engine 97, and Ladder 95 knocked down the fire before it could spread to the rest of the house. However there was a heavy smoke condition throughout the house, causing the crews to use smoke ejectors to clear the dwelling.
The assignment was held to Eastern Berks, Boyertown, and Bally Medics. In the 90 degree heat, EMS provided a cooling station and hydration. Just the day before crews had fought a hay wagon fire in equally hot conditions. On scene for EBFD were Engine 97-1, Engine 97; Tanker 97-1, Utility 97.
